Synopsis

Northern England, 1930s. Isaiah Squiff is an eccentric ophthalmologist who is conducting his own eye test experiments. Isaiah is in love with his assistant Mercy, who is concocting drugs for the experiments, which Isaiah self-administers with generous volumes of brandy.
Mercy is secretly in love with Isaiah’s best friend Lucas, who is also caught up in Isaiah’s experiment. Lucas loves Mercy and wants to tell Isaiah, but Mercy won’t let him. As the trio’s regular and repeating procedures whimsically deteriorate Lucas becomes increasingly frustrated and Mercy struggles to keep her world together.
But will Isaiah ever see what’s going on?
